Generalising the classical work of Atiyah and Hirzebruch on non-algebraic classes, recently Quick proved the existence of torsion non-algebraic elements in the Brown–Peterson tower. We construct non-torsion non-algebraic elements in the Brown–Peterson tower for the prime number 2.

We classify real two-dimensional orbits of conformal subgroups such that the orbits contain two circular arcs through a point. Such surfaces must be toric and admit a Möbius automorphism group of dimension at least two. Our theorem generalizes the classical classification of Dupin cyclides.

We express nested Hilbert schemes of points and curves on a smooth projective surface as ‘virtual resolutions’ of degeneracy loci of maps of vector bundles on smooth ambient spaces. We show how to modify the resulting obstruction theories to produce the virtual cycles of Vafa–Witten theory and other sheaf-counting problems. The result is an effective way of calculating invariants (VW, SW, local PT and local DT) via Thom–Porteous-like Chern class formulae.

The Beauville–Voisin conjecture for a hyperkähler manifold $X$ states that the subring of the Chow ring $A^{\ast }(X)$ generated by divisor classes and Chern characters of the tangent bundle injects into the cohomology ring of $X$. We prove a weak version of this conjecture when $X$ is the Hilbert scheme of points on a K3 surface for the subring generated by divisor classes and tautological classes. This in particular implies the weak splitting conjecture of Beauville for these geometries. In the process, we extend Lehn’s formula and the Li–Qin–Wang $W_{1+\infty }$ algebra action from cohomology to Chow groups for the Hilbert scheme of an arbitrary smooth projective surface $S$.

We compute the nef cone of the Hilbert scheme of points on a general rational elliptic surface. As a consequence of our computation, we show that the Morrison–Kawamata cone conjecture holds for these nef cones.

The Severi variety $V_{d,n}$ of plane curves of a given degree $d$ and exactly $n$ nodes admits a map to the Hilbert scheme $\mathbb{P}^{2[n]}$ of zero-dimensional subschemes of $\mathbb{P}^{2}$ of degree $n$. This map assigns to every curve $C\in V_{d,n}$ its nodes. For some $n$, we consider the image under this map of many known divisors of the Severi variety and its partial compactification. We compute the divisor classes of such images in $\text{Pic}(\mathbb{P}^{2[n]})$ and provide enumerative numbers of nodal curves. We also answer directly a question of Diaz–Harris [‘Geometry of the Severi variety’, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc.309 (1988), 1–34] about whether the canonical class of the Severi variety is effective.

We study special cycles on a Shimura variety of orthogonal type over a totally real field of degree d associated with a quadratic form in $n+2$ variables whose signature is $(n,2)$ at e real places and $(n+2,0)$ at the remaining $d-e$ real places for $1\leq e <d$. Recently, these cycles were constructed by Kudla and Rosu–Yott, and they proved that the generating series of special cycles in the cohomology group is a Hilbert-Siegel modular form of half integral weight. We prove that, assuming the Beilinson–Bloch conjecture on the injectivity of the higher Abel–Jacobi map, the generating series of special cycles of codimension er in the Chow group is a Hilbert–Siegel modular form of genus r and weight $1+n/2$. Our result is a generalization of Kudla’s modularity conjecture, solved by Yuan–Zhang–Zhang unconditionally when $e=1$.

The purpose of this note is to establish isomorphisms up to bounded torsion between relative $K_{0}$-groups and Chow groups with modulus as defined by Binda and Saito.

We define a notion of mixed Hodge structure with modulus that generalizes the classical notion of mixed Hodge structure introduced by Deligne and the level one Hodge structures with additive parts introduced by Kato and Russell in their description of Albanese varieties with modulus. With modulus triples of any dimension, we attach mixed Hodge structures with modulus. We combine this construction with an equivalence between the category of level one mixed Hodge structures with modulus and the category of Laumon 1-motives to generalize Kato–Russell’s Albanese varieties with modulus to 1-motives.

We study irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifolds deformation equivalent to Hilbert schemes of points on a $K3$ surface and admitting a non-symplectic involution. We classify the possible discriminant quadratic forms of the invariant and coinvariant lattice for the action of the involution on cohomology and explicitly describe the lattices in the cases where the invariant lattice has small rank. We also give a modular description of all $d$-dimensional families of manifolds of $K3^{[n]}$-type with a non-symplectic involution for $d\geqslant 19$ and $n\leqslant 5$ and provide examples arising as moduli spaces of twisted sheaves on a $K3$ surface.

We prove the integral Hodge conjecture for all 3-folds $X$ of Kodaira dimension zero with $H^{0}(X,K_{X})$ not zero. This generalizes earlier results of Voisin and Grabowski. The assumption is sharp, in view of counterexamples by Benoist and Ottem. We also prove similar results on the integral Tate conjecture. For example, the integral Tate conjecture holds for abelian 3-folds in any characteristic.

We study the variations of mixed Hodge structures (VMHS) associated with a pencil ${\mathcal{X}}$ of equisingular hypersurfaces of degree $d$ in $\mathbb{P}^{4}$ with only ordinary double points as singularities, as well as the variations of Hodge structures (VHS) associated with the desingularization of this family $\widetilde{{\mathcal{X}}}$. The notion of a set of singular points being in homologically good position is introduced, and, by requiring that the subset of nodes in (algebraic) general position is also in homologically good position, we can extend Griffiths’ description of the $F^{2}$-term of the Hodge filtration of the desingularization to this case, where we can also determine the possible limiting mixed Hodge structures (LMHS). The particular pencil ${\mathcal{X}}$ of quintic hypersurfaces with 100 singular double points with 86 of them in (algebraic) general position that served as the starting point for this paper is treated with particular attention.

We compute cones of effective cycles on some blowups of projective spaces in general sets of lines.

Moduli spaces of stable objects in the derived category of a $K3$ surface provide a large class of holomorphic symplectic varieties. In this paper, we study the interplay between Chern classes of stable objects and zero-cycles on holomorphic symplectic varieties which arise as moduli spaces. First, we show that the second Chern class of any object in the derived category lies in a suitable piece of O’Grady’s filtration on the $\text{CH}_{0}$-group of the $K3$ surface. This solves a conjecture of O’Grady and improves on previous results of Huybrechts, O’Grady, and Voisin. Second, we propose a candidate for the Beauville–Voisin filtration on the $\text{CH}_{0}$-group of the moduli space of stable objects. We discuss its connection with Voisin’s recent proposal via constant cycle subvarieties, and prove a conjecture of hers on the existence of special algebraically coisotropic subvarieties for the moduli space.

We introduce and study various categories of (equivariant) motives of (versal) flag varieties. We relate these categories with certain categories of parabolic (Demazure) modules. We show that the motivic decomposition type of a versal flag variety depends on the direct sum decomposition type of the parabolic module. To do this we use localization techniques of Kostant and Kumar in the context of generalized oriented cohomology as well as the Rost nilpotence principle for algebraic cobordism and its generic version. As an application, we obtain new proofs and examples of indecomposable Chow motives of versal flag varieties.

For families of smooth complex projective varieties, we show that normal functions arising from algebraically trivial cycle classes are algebraic and defined over the field of definition of the family. In particular, the zero loci of those functions are algebraic and defined over such a field of definition. This proves a conjecture of Charles.

In this paper we prove the Rigidity Theorem for motives of rigid analytic varieties over a non-Archimedean valued field $K$. We prove this theorem both for motives with transfers and without transfers in a relative setting. Applications include the construction of étale realization functors, an upgrade of the known comparison between motives with and without transfers and an upgrade of the rigid analytic motivic tilting equivalence, extending them to $\mathbb{Z}[1/p]$-coefficients.

In this note, we prove the logarithmic $p$-adic comparison theorem for open rigid analytic varieties. We prove that a smooth rigid analytic variety with a strict simple normal crossing divisor is locally $K(\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B},1)$ (in a certain sense) with respect to $\mathbb{F}_{p}$-local systems and ramified coverings along the divisor. We follow Scholze’s method to produce a pro-version of the Faltings site and use this site to prove a primitive comparison theorem in our setting. After introducing period sheaves in our setting, we prove aforesaid comparison theorem.

We describe generators of disguised residual intersections in any commutative Noetherian ring. It is shown that, over Cohen–Macaulay rings, the disguised residual intersections and algebraic residual intersections are the same, for ideals with sliding depth. This coincidence provides structural results for algebraic residual intersections in a quite general setting. It is shown how the DG-algebra structure of Koszul homologies affects the determination of generators of residual intersections. It is shown that the Buchsbaum–Eisenbud family of complexes can be derived from the Koszul–Čech spectral sequence. This interpretation of Buchsbaum–Eisenbud families has a crucial rule to establish the above results.

We extend results on asymptotic invariants of line bundles on complex projective varieties to projective varieties over arbitrary fields. To do so over imperfect fields, we prove a scheme-theoretic version of the gamma construction of Hochster and Huneke to reduce to the setting where the ground field is $F$-finite. Our main result uses the gamma construction to extend the ampleness criterion of de Fernex, Küronya, and Lazarsfeld using asymptotic cohomological functions to projective varieties over arbitrary fields, which was previously known only for complex projective varieties. We also extend Nakayama’s description of the restricted base locus to klt or strongly $F$-regular varieties over arbitrary fields.
