Readers can now use the integrated text-to-speech tool to experience automated natural voice reading on compatible titles in our catalogue.

The player is available for all users of our Cambridge Spiral eReader including those who are using guest access to read a textbook.

If the title you have selected has text-to-speech functionality you will see the tool icon in the top right area (a set of headphones over a book).

When you first activate the tool in a textbook you will see a message confirming the feature. This will repeat for each new textbook you activate the tool within for the first time.

Once the tool is loaded you start and pause listening by using the play icon. You can increase or decrease volume using the slider. You can use the pointer icon if you wish to start listening from a specific place on the page.

Additional information

• This feature is only compatible with reflowable layout textbooks and is being rolled out across our titles starting from mid-January 2023. If a textbook does not have text-to-speech enabled, this will be made apparent on the information page for the textbook.

• Some content, such as charts, media, and formulae, in our titles will not be read out by the text-to-speech tool.

• Annotation functionality is not available when you have text-to-speech enabled. Please close the text-to-speech tool to re-enable annotation capabilities.
