This chapter addresses the IHL prohibitions on means and methods of warfare such as those which are indiscriminate, cause superfluous injury or unnecessary suffering or cause long term and severe damage to the environment. It then studies the law of targeting and in particular the definition of military objectives, proportionality and precautions as they also apply to new technology weapons such as UAVs, cyber or automated and automatic weapons
