In this article, we investigate a free boundary problem for the Lotka–Volterra model consisting of an invasive species with density u and a native species with density v in one dimension. We assume that v undergoes diffusion and growth in $[0,+\infty )$, and u invades into the environment with spreading front $x=h(t)$ satisfying free boundary condition $h'(t)=-u_x(t,h(t))-\alpha $ for some decay rate $\alpha>0$, this is caused by the bad environment at the boundary. When u is an inferior competitor, $u(t,x)$ and $h(t)$ tend to 0 within a finite time, while another specie $v(t,x)$ tends to a stationary $\Lambda (x)$ defined on the half-line. When u is a superior competitor, we have a trichotomy result: spreading of u and vanishing of v (i.e., as $t \to +\infty $, $h(t)$ goes to $+\infty $ and $(u,v)\to (\Lambda ,0)$); the transition case (i.e., as $t \to +\infty $, $(u,v)\to (w_\alpha , \eta _\alpha )$, $h(t)$ tends to a finite point); vanishing of u and spreading of v (i.e., $u(t,x)$ and $h(t)$ tends to 0 within a finite time, $v(t,x)$ converges to $\Lambda (x)$). Additionally, we show that this trichotomy result depends on the initial data $u(0,x)$.

We give a short proof of the anticyclotomic analogue of the “strong” main conjecture of Kurihara on Fitting ideals of Selmer groups for elliptic curves with good ordinary reduction under mild hypotheses. More precisely, we completely determine the initial Fitting ideal of Selmer groups over finite subextensions of an imaginary quadratic field in its anticyclotomic $\mathbb {Z}_p$-extension in terms of Bertolini–Darmon’s theta elements.

We define the Schur–Agler class in infinite variables to consist of functions whose restrictions to finite-dimensional polydisks belong to the Schur–Agler class. We show that a natural generalization of an Agler decomposition holds and the functions possess transfer function realizations that allow us to extend the functions to the unit ball of $\ell ^\infty $. We also give a Pick interpolation type theorem which displays a subtle difference with finitely many variables. Finally, we make a brief connection to Dirichlet series derived from the Schur–Agler class in infinite variables via the Bohr correspondence.

Two frames $\{f_n\}_{n =1}^{\infty }$ and $\{g_n\}_{n =1}^{\infty }$ in a separable Hilbert space ${\mathcal H}$ are said to be weaving frames, if for every $\sigma \subset \mathbb N$, $\{f_n\}_{n\in \sigma } \cup \{g_n\}_{n\in \sigma ^c}$ is a frame for ${\mathcal H}$. Weaving frames are proved to be very useful in many areas, such as, distributed processing, wireless sensor networks, packet encoding, and many more. Inspired by the work of Bemrose et al. [2], this paper delves into the properties and characterizations of weaving frames and weaving Riesz bases.

We study density properties of orbits for a hypercyclic operator T on a separable Banach space X, and show that exactly one of the following four cases holds: (1) every vector in X is asymptotic to zero with density one; (2) generic vectors in X are distributionally irregular of type $1$; (3) generic vectors in X are distributionally irregular of type $2\frac {1}{2}$ and no hypercyclic vector is distributionally irregular of type $1$; (4) every hypercyclic vector in X is divergent to infinity with density one. We also present some examples concerned with weighted backward shifts on $\ell ^p$ to show that all the above four cases can occur. Furthermore, we show that similar results hold for $C_0$-semigroups.

Let $t\geq 2$ and $k\geq 1$ be integers. A t-regular partition of a positive integer n is a partition of n such that none of its parts is divisible by t. Let $b_{t,k}(n)$ denote the number of hooks of length k in all the t-regular partitions of n. In this article, we prove some inequalities for $b_{t,k}(n)$ for fixed values of k. We prove that for any $t\geq 2$, $b_{t+1,1}(n)\geq b_{t,1}(n)$, for all $n\geq 0$. We also prove that $b_{3,2}(n)\geq b_{2,2}(n)$ for all $n>3$, and $b_{3,3}(n)\geq b_{2,3}(n)$ for all $n\geq 0$. Finally, we state some problems for future works.

For which choices of $X,Y,Z\in \{\Sigma ^1_1,\Pi ^1_1\}$ does no sufficiently strong X-sound and Y-definable extension theory prove its own Z-soundness? We give a complete answer, thereby delimiting the generalizations of Gödel’s second incompleteness theorem that hold within second-order arithmetic.

Using an explicit Eichler–Shimura–Harder isomorphism, we establish the analog of Manin’s rationality theorem for Bianchi periods and hence special values of L-functions of Bianchi cusp forms. This gives a new short proof of a result of Hida in the case of Euclidean imaginary quadratic fields. In particular, we give an explicit proof using the space of Bianchi period polynomials constructed by Karabulut and describe the action of Hecke operators.

Let $A\ \mathrm{and}\ B$ be subsets of $(\mathbb {Z}/p^r\mathbb {Z})^2$. In this note, we provide conditions on the densities of A and B such that $|gA-B|\gg p^{2r}$ for a positive proportion of $g\in SO_2(\mathbb {Z}/p^r\mathbb {Z})$. The conditions are sharp up to constant factors in the unbalanced case, and the proof makes use of tools from discrete Fourier analysis and results in restriction/extension theory.

We shall prove that if X, Y are compact metrizable spaces of positive dimension and ${h:X\times Y \to X}$ is a continuous map with zero-dimensional fibers then X contains a nontrivial continuum without one-dimensional subsets; in particular, X is not a countable union of zero-dimensional sets, which provides a negative answer to a question of Dudák and Vejnar [DV]

Let $K = \mathbf {R}$ or $\mathbf {C}$. An n-element subset A of K is a $B_h$-set if every element of K has at most one representation as the sum of h not necessarily distinct elements of A. Associated with the $B_h$-set $A = \{a_1,\ldots , a_n\}$ are the $B_h$-vectors $\mathbf {a} = (a_1,\ldots , a_n)$ in $K^n$. This article proves that “almost all” n-element subsets of K are $B_h$-sets in the sense that the set of all $B_h$-vectors is a dense open subset of $K^n$.

We show that the set of Liouville numbers has a rich set-theoretic structure: it can be partitioned in an explicit way into an uncountable collection of subsets, each of which is dense in the real line. Furthermore, each of these partitioning subsets can be similarly partitioned, and the process can be repeated indefinitely.

In this article, we study the algebra of Veronese type. We show that the presentation ideal of this algebra has an initial ideal whose Alexander dual has linear quotients. As an application, we explicitly obtain the Castelnuovo–Mumford regularity of the Veronese type algebra. Furthermore, we give an effective upper bound on the multiplicity of this algebra.

We show that for every non-spherical set X in $\mathbb {E}^d$, there exists a natural number m and a red/blue-coloring of $\mathbb {E}^n$ for every n such that there is no red copy of X and no blue progression of length m with each consecutive point at distance $1$. This verifies a conjecture of Wu and the first author.

Let G be an affine algebraic group over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic. Recent work of Hardesty, Nakano, and Sobaje gives necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of so-called mock injective G-modules, that is, modules which are injective upon restriction to all Frobenius kernels of G. In this article, we give analogous results for contramodules, including showing that the same necessary and sufficient conditions on G guarantee the existence of mock projective contramodules. In order to do this, we first develop contramodule analogs to many well-known (co)module constructions.

We consider a finite-dimensional vector space $W\subset K^E$ over a field K and a set E. We show that the set $\mathcal {C}(W)\subset 2^E$ of minimal supports of W are the circuits of a matroid on E. When the cardinality of K is large (compared to that of E), then the family of supports of W is a matroid. Afterwards we apply these results to tropical differential algebraic geometry (tdag), studying the set of supports of spaces of formal power series solutions $\text {Sol}(\Sigma )$ of systems of linear differential equations (ldes) $\Sigma$ in variables $x_1,\ldots ,x_n$ having coefficients in . If $\Sigma $ is of differential type zero, then the set $\mathcal {C}(Sol(\Sigma ))\subset (2^{\mathbb {N}^{m}})^n$ of minimal supports defines a matroid on $E=[n]\times \mathbb {N}^{m}$, and if the cardinality of K is large enough, then the set of supports is also a matroid on E. By applying the fundamental theorem of tdag (fttdag), we give a necessary condition under which the set of solutions $Sol(U)$ of a system U of tropical ldes is a matroid. We give a counterexample to the fttdag for systems $\Sigma $ of ldes over countable fields for which is not a matroid.

We prove two-sided bounds on the expected values of several geometric functionals of the convex hull of Brownian motion in $\mathbb {R}^n$ and their inverse processes. This extends some recent results of McRedmond and Xu (2017), Jovalekić (2021), and Cygan, Šebek, and the first author (2023) from the plane to higher dimensions. Our main result shows that the average time required for the convex hull in $\mathbb {R}^n$ to attain unit volume is at most $n\sqrt [n]{n!}$. The proof relies on a novel procedure that embeds an n-simplex of prescribed volume within the convex hull of the Brownian path run up to a certain stopping time. All of our bounds capture the correct order of asymptotic growth or decay in the dimension n.

In this article, we show that $\delta _X$ is exactly the square of the Chebyshev radius of $ X$, hence is at least $\dfrac {\operatorname {\mathrm {{diam}}}(X)^2}4$. We deduce from the main result of [2] a quantitative statement on the zeros of a $\mathcal C^1$-operator on $ H$ with Lipschitz derivative, and show that this statement is optimal.

Determining the polynomials $D \in {\mathbb Z}[x]$ such that the polynomial Pell equation ${P^2-DQ^2=1}$ has nontrivial solutions $P,Q$ in ${\mathbb Q}[x]$ (and in ${\mathbb Z}[x]$) is an open question. In this article, we consider the generalized polynomial Pell equation $P^2-DQ^2=n$, where $D \in {\mathbb Z}[x]$ is a monic quadratic polynomial and n is a nonzero integer. For $n=1$, such an equation always has nontrivial solutions in ${\mathbb Q}[x]$, but for a non-square integer n, the generalized polynomial Pell equation $P^2-DQ^2=n$ may not always have a solution in ${\mathbb Q}[x]$. Depending on n, we determine the polynomials $D=x^2+cx+d$, for which the equation $P^2-DQ^2=n$ has nontrivial solutions in ${\mathbb Q}[x]$ and in ${\mathbb Z}[x]$. Taking $n=-1$, this allows us to solve the negative polynomial Pell equation completely for any such D. An interesting feature is that there are certain polynomials D for which the generalized polynomial Pell equation has nontrivial solutions in ${\mathbb Z}[x]$, but only finitely many, whereas the solutions in ${\mathbb Q}[x]$ are infinitely many. Finally, we determine the monic quadratic polynomials D for which the solutions of $P^2-DQ^2=n$ in ${\mathbb Z}[x]$ exhibit this finiteness phenomenon.
